2001 pontiac grand am se 4cyl ... makes choking noise when shutting down..?

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand am se coupe 4 cylinder, when i go to turn my car off it sounds like a choke i cant figure it out what it is it seems like it is getting louder it does not seem healthy.. please someone help thanks..
