2001 Pontiac Aztec, knock in the engine? Yes or No?

I have the chance to buy a 2001 Pontiac Aztec with a knock in the engine for a thousand bucks. My fiance is a mechanic and can put the replacement engine in for me. He found one for $300.00. Also everything else checks out ok on the car. It has 120,000 miles on it. I want some advice on whether it's a good deal or am I looking to get myself into a lot of trouble? Thanks
