2001 Honda F4I speedo problem and F1 light on?

Hello, my speedo on my CBR f4i is broken. It works periodically but then will hold at 0 and occasionally come back on. Sometimes the f1 light will come on also. My back brake lights are not working correctly either so I think it might be a short with the wiring but if i took it to a shop, what would be a rough price that they would be charging me?
 
Sounds like your regulator/rectifier is about to die.
Crazy speedo readings and other weird electrical happenings is a good symptom. Get it checked ASAP as when it fails completely,it can do some real damage to your electrical system.(such as fry your ECU and kill your battery)

The brake light is probably just a blown globe but may have been caused by a voltage spike when the R/R had one of its moments.

Hondas are renowned for this component failure. The R/R's operate at high temperature and can't dissipate the heat so they fail.
