I've tried wd-40, useing the break, and moving the steering column up and down, checked the break sensors, but then entire steering column including turning the wheel are locked. its parked out side on my flat drive way. this has happened before but never this bad.
it is the proper key, I don't make copies its the original key that came with it when I bought it, this type of car has a history of this, and I need help on how to get it unstuck this time.
well I got it working, I sprayed the key with wd and then put it in tapped it lightly with a hammer and got it to start. but if I take the key out it won't work any more and I gotta do it all over again. for now I am keeping the key in. my boy friends step dad runs an auto repair shop and he said he mite be able to find one at a junk yard that is newer and will last a little longer till I get the money to replace it. thanks to those that answered, and any one else that has this problem try the hammer thing but its only a temp thing.

try using the proper key, the one you have is not the one for that vehicle, it may get you in/on once in a while, but the lock says otherwise

This is a common problem with early model focus cars, the ignition cylinder will need to be replaced, Any shop should be able to do this, although the cylinder will have to be keyed to your key. Possibly you will have to have a new key programmed to your ignition module
