Ok, so my car has been doing this for a while now and when I took it to the shop, they couldnt tell me what was wrong with it...but something has to be wrong.

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus SE, around 145,000 miles (I know, alot).

Anyway...It likes to die. It doesnt do it alot, but it TRIES to alot, usually when idling. I can get it started right back up most of the time.

Also, I noticed when I get to certain speeds and stay there for a while, it likes to shutter...like it wants to die...at about 65-70 mph.

Fuel pump maybe? I really have no idea...and apparently neither does my mechanic.

Help!!

Well I would ask your mechanic to replace the fuel filter rather that corrects the problem or not. with 145K on it, it would be a good time to change it. Now as to the other issue, when you say the mechanic doesn't know whats wrong with it, I would find another mechanic. He should have some idea simply by driving the car and getting and understanding to when the problem happens. They should also be able to do what is called a drive ability test. This is where they take their diagnostic computer and hook it up to your car. Drive it around so it records the information from the computer. they can then print this information out and see if there are any sensors that may be bad. I would also look at having the plugs and wires changed out, and if needed the fuel injectors professionally cleaned. the drive ability test should help them locate any problems right off, the tune up should resolve everything else.
