2001 dodge stratus... had a engine put in with about 80k miles on it..?

now its got about 50 miles on it and its starting to bog down and the rpms drop real low when you go up a hill.. down hill and flats it runs good. the garage said the computer needs to relearn to the engine. does this sound right or is he trying to buy time?? how long does it take for the computer to relearn itself?? we did not replace the computer as far as i know. one more bit of info i have is when he put the first motor in his computer said it was a match but come to find out the cam shaft had one tooth extra and threw the timing off so he located a different engine and installed it.. any info would help..
 
8-10 cold starts later and the hicup should clear itself.
Call a Dodge service dept. and ask for some insight if they are not too busy.
 
i have never heard of a computer having to learn its new motor.i have changed so many engines that are computer controlled and never had an issue.i think your mechanic or guy who sold you and engine is trying to scam you.
