2001 Dodge Intrepid Error Code P0456?

My check engine light came on and I took it to auto-zone, they ran an error code check and i got P0456 here is what the section of the report he gave me verbadium

OEM Brand: Domestic

Definition
BBEVAP- Small Leak Detected
Explanation
The ECM has detected a large leak in the EVAP system during a system monitor test
Probable cause
1. Defective, loose or missing fuel cap
2. EVAP Canister broke, hose cracked or not connected
3. Purge or vent solenoid defective
4. Vacum leak at engine

of course it could be something as easy as the loose fuel cap, but i have checked my cap and it seems to be on really tight. but I have no idea how cars work and I'm guessing that all those other problems will run me more then a 1000 bucks.

What could this be
 
The most common cause for that code is a fuel cap or cracked evap or vacuum hose. Even if the cap is tight it could still be leaking at the internal seal. If you decide to replace it either get one from the dealer or make sure you specify a non-vented cap at autozone. If you buy a vented cap the code wont go away.
If you really dont know anything about a car maybe you have a friend who does that can show you where the evap canister and hoses are. Inspect them closely for any dry rot or cracking.
Worst case scenario, if it is the vent solenoid or canister, neither of those parts are expensive. Generally under a hundred bucks.
The only way this will get expensive is if you and your friends cant find it and have to pay a shop $80.00+ an hour for diagnosis. And even then a qualified tech with proper equipment should find within an hour.
