2001 Dodge Durango knocks when driving slow, especially in reverse.?

I have a 2001 Durango and there is a knock sound when I am driving slow, especially in reverse. It doesn't seem to make the sound when I am driving faster. Could it be a linkage problem with my 4 wheel drive? Is this an easy fix that I could do myself? How much would a mechanic charge to fix this problem?
