2001 Chrysler Neon Automatic Revs Really High Before Changing Gears?

I have a 2001 Chrysler Neon, Automatic. I have to rev it really high before it changes gears and sometimes play with the shifter - put it in neutral and back in drive really quick and that will trigger it to change gears. Any ideas what could be the problem? Is it possible that I need to change the transmission filter? Thanks!
