I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and the theft light system went on and it just blinks. However I cannot get my car to start with it blinking. How can I get the light to go off and my car to start? Thank you for your help in advance.

Turn the key on but do not start it. Leave it on for 30 minutes then try to start it. If it still doesn't start the ignition switch and security ring module might need to be replaced. Common fault on this vehicle and other GM car like it.

turn switch on for about 10 to 15 minutes or until security light goes out, this should allow it to start but is only temporary?,best fix is to replace ignition switch, and take to local dealer and have them recode theft system, switch usually runs 120 dollars ,dealer charges anywhere from 70 to 110 to recode and 100 to 120 to install switch, sometimes after you replace switch you can turn switch back on for 10 to 20 minutes or untill security light stops blinking, then try to start sometimes it sometimes it want.hope this helps and good luck
