Do it right

Guest
I'm very mechanically inclinded and could handle the job, but I'm not sure if I should.
Our van has 84K miles on it and I'm sure being 9 years old it's time to replace it.
I've read that the water pump and cam seals should also be replaced at the same time.
What I'd like to know is.....
1) What would this cost for the dealer to do?
2) What could go wrong if I do it myself?
3) Are there special tools needed?
4) Is it too easy to screw up the timing?

I appreciate any advice....Thanks
