So i own a 2000 jeep cherokee and before i purchased it the front headlights of the vehicle were all dirty looking and really distorted the light coming from the light bulb of the actual headlight, in other words the plastic that covers the headlamp headlights was grimmy looking. I have recently purchased new headlamp headlights for my jeep , but before i put them in i would like to know the cause of what made the ones prior look al gross, old and grimmy ? ( i was told maybe from someone waxing them ? ) 10 points for best answer

Dirt, in particular small debris, like sand. The sloping shape and the upfront and corner placement of the headlamp lenses put them right in the airflow of the Grand Cherokee. The small pieces of dirt and sand basically act like sandpaper on the headlamps. It is possibly to sand and polish 90% of those scratches out with the various kits availible. Grand Cherokee's (99-04) Dodge Intrepids (99-040 and PT Cruisers (01-up) Nissan Sentras (01-05) are also very prone to the same issues.
