2000 Ford Windstar gauges going crazy, what do i do?

All gauges go crazy and speedometer will get stuck at different mph. Blinker stayed on until i turned the van off, and then the van wouldn't even crank back up. Could it be a loose wire or is the computer messed up?
 
It is the alternator my friend. We have had 2 2001 windstars. Both alternators went bad. Replace the alternator with a new one or re manufactured one. Not a used one.
 
the alternator starts to over charge (over 15 volts) in which case it shuts down and possibly damages the other modules (instument cluster, pcm and other modules if equipped). i would check the voltage when the concern is present. if high more that 14.4volts. replace the alternator and check for other concerns caused by this.
