Please don't answer unless you know what the problem is, as I don't have time to play games.
Okay, yesterday the car worked fine. This morning my husband went out to go to the store then came back in and said that the car wouldn't go into reverse (No problem with 5th gear). So he took it to a friend's house where they tore out the center console to see if it could been a problem with the shifter. They found a big rigged-up mess!
The people who owned the car before us has use some kind of bushing to hold one of the shifter levers in place then tied a hair-tie around the 2 levers to hold them together. The bushing they used had broken so my husband got the right pieces to put them back together. Once he put them back together then drove it, reverse still didn't work, and now it won't even go into 5th gear.
Before it was fine, no problem with 5th gear, and we could put the car in reverse but it just wouldn't go backward. It will pull forward slightly then shut off. Now the car still won't go backward in reverse but it won't even shift into 5th gear.
What could be the problem?
