My 2000 Neon shifts to neutral when I press the gas pedal all the way to the floor. It's an automatic transmission. When I push the pedal down it stops about halfway down. Then it's hard to push, but it "breaks free" and the shifter lever goes to neutral and the engine revs up because the pedal is now on the floor, but the tranny is in neutral! Why does this do this and how can I fix it? I would like to accelerate a bit faster! (if I can-- I just thought it was because it's a 4 cyl.!) I just purchased this car so I don't know how long it's been like this!
