200 greatest guitarists in rock

If I composed a list of top 200 guitarists I'm almost certain B.B. wouldn't make the list. If I made a list of top 200 blues guitarists I'm not sure if he'd make the list, and if he did he'd be near the bottom.

So I made some pretty glaring omissions.

Some oversights I really regret.

Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe.
Keith Levene of Public Image Ltd
Michael Karoli of Can.
Vivian Campbell of Dio
Wata of Boris
Ty Tabor of Kings X
Matthias Jabs and Rudy Schenker of Scorpions
Izzy Stradlin of Gnr

Some others I'll be sure to add.

I noticed you completely removed B. B. King. Wasn't he in the top six of the RS list? You still kept Kurt Cobain on there, why not B. B. King?

Looks like trolling to me. You like who you like, and that's really cute, and while we encourage a healthy debate here flaming people in order to defend your views isn't cool. One more insult and you're gone for a week.

I disagree. Virtuosity is not a crime. Its an essential part of quite a large amount of music, particularly in the classical and calssically influenced genres, where works by composers and artists such as Rachmaninoff, Lizst, and Paganini are held among the highest regard.

The large backlash against virtuosic stylings didn't come about because of malmsteen and his more popular contemporaries, but because of those imitators of those artists who mistook the techicality as the substance of their works. Musicians such as paganini and lizst didn't get their status purely on technicality, but if they were releasing music today they'd be shouted down because the DIY ethic of rock seems to be taking offense to the idea of technical skill as a worthwhile tool for expression.

I don't think its without doubt. I think it's sort of like just saying Neil Peart is automatically the best drummer when John Bonham and Ginger Baker are quite exceptional themselves.

What about Synyster Gates in that top 200? He's only what, like 29 years old and he's already got an amazing guitar ability and so much more time to get even better!

Neil Young has some really impressive parts, he also has some hurabling parts. Sometimes it's good, sometimes... not so good. He deserves credit, but im not sure about top 20.

Be careful when trying to make absolutes out of subjective interpretations. I happen to agree with your stance, but don't be shocked when someone else doesn't.

Well the quality of the list is subjective to personal opinion, and someone will always have something nevatige to say.

I was mearly commenting and I did offer kudos for such a tedious effort done by one person.

And honestly, I'm just not up to it.

Well the way I put it you could interpret it however you want.

People that rant about Morellos effects are like all those kiRAB who whine about drummers that use pro tools. It's not how you do it it's what you do with it.
