200 greatest guitarists in rock

I'd rather listen to Slash than Gilbert without a doubt, because one is in Guns N Roses and one plays for Mr. Big and Racer X, sure Slash isn't doing much more than copying Perry and Page, but he's one of the perfectionists of what I call the "c*ck rock" guitar style. Gilbert to me is just one of many shredders that sound pretty much the same, but he's one of the more popular and respected ones, warranting his placement on the list nonetheless.

I've tried to be as unbiased as possible, I have the dudes from Journey, Toto, Extreme, etc, so the butt rock demographic is well represented.

I still haven't made it to 250 and I'm on the verge of just saying f*ck it and updating my list already.
 
Actually, Tommy Johnson was a real guy, a delta blues musician who according to legend ALSO sold his soul to Satan to learn how to play guitar, that and his last name is just a big coincidence, he wasn't related to Robert Johnson in any way.
 
i've seen that phil keaggy ebow clip before. he might be a good guitarist but his use of effects is pretty bland, you can pull out WAY more than what he shows with that device and just a little fuzz. he's playing with a safety net and definitely thinking inside the box on that one.
 
Going by the criteria, though, Hendrix does win without a doubt. He scores more in creativity, originality, influence, status, impact than anyone else. Others do come very close but Hendrix always has the edge.
 
that is very true. fallout boy basically does nothing but suck ****.

but there is a reason there are big names like Santana and Satch and Clapton that can sell out a huge venue even now.
 
I don't understand how three-chord songs (exaggerating) influence anything. He's fine, but I don't think he deserves a spot in all honesty. Well, he may. I'm just a hater :D

Like, Zakk Wylde is a 100x better than him in my opinion and is one spot below. His solo in No More Tears is phenomenal.
 
Just so long as it isn't a personal insult to the king of the blues (like The Unfan...don't know how much crack he was smoking). I did notice the absence of a few other guitarists, but it wasn't anything big. I would have rearranged the top ten:

  2. Duane Allman
  3. Chuck Berry
  4. Eric Clapton
  5. Jimmy Page
  6. Bo Diddley
  7. Jeff Beck
  8. Eddie Van Halen
  9. Stevie Ray Vaughan
  10. Pete Townshend
 
In my personal opinion, I would add Chris Broderick and move Dave Mustaine up the list to atleast to top 50.

But thats just me and my Megadeth loving stupidity.
 
I'd say that Brian Setzer, John Fogarty, and who can forget Johnny Ramone (:D) are my favorite guitarists. Not based on technical skill at all.

are guitarists I would have in there and omit others but lists are always subjective.
 
I'd like to see Paul Gilbert do it, he clearly makes a mistake at 2:49 geez! It still is pretty amazing though, however like BooBoo said, this was to be objective and to include artist from all genres... he already has fret wankers up there.
