200 greatest guitarists in rock

He's on and off for me.

His Cream and Dominos stuff I love, his solo stuff is hit and miss, though Slowhand is a really good album. I'm not a big fan of his turn towarRAB adult contemporary stuff.

He can be boring for sure, but you can't deny that he's done some awesome stuff as well.

Anyway I might change this list up some more. Steven Wilson is someone I forgot completely. D=

Instrumentalists play instruments. Instruments make music. Malmsteen and that other fat dude are just kiRAB who got picked on cause they couldn't play sports as a kid so they had to show everyone up by being the fastest at something.

Squire is up there.

I love Neil Young, he's a great guitarist, but lets not go crazy, I'm judging him as a guitarist alone. And as a guitarist alone there's a good deal of people who outrank him even if he's a better songwriter.

This is a rock oriented list. I do have some blues guitarists on here that I feel have a more rock oriented sound, like SRV. But Django and Pass certainly don't qualify as rock.

Thurston Moore is up there. Kim Gordon is the bassist, not a guitarist.

200 Greatest Guitarists in Rock.

If it were an all genres list, there would barely be any rock in it at all.

Eh no... There's a lot of obscure names in there, from all the big rock genres. If the popular names are higher, that's because influence and impact is a factor.

Absolutely not and I'm quite insulted that you are suggesting that.

No doubt he's a great guitarist. But does he really excel in any of the other categories boo boo laid out? I'm not so sure.

BTW, great avatar picture! :thurab:

We will let BooBoo describe the criteria for his choices. As I have already said lists are always subjective.I am a little nonplussed myself as to certain inclusions but let's wait for his take on it please.

have you heard the early solo crap? If you want sloppy look no further

I just realised how ridiculously random this list is, its too long, the bloke from Yo La Tengo  If i had to list 200 guitarists i'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel too...

I've been listening to some wanky blues guitar music recently (specifially Texas Flood). I can actually live with this, nobody makes it sound as effortless as him and in improvisational terms Vaughn is like a bebop musician, except he only has one scale to work with and erm.. has to be melodic. It's a rare case of guitar music where I can just appreciate the technical prowess of a player, usually I demand a decent song framework but it's hard to mess up with the blues.

Guitarist with a soul, plus he was in Procol Harum and knows how to pull a guitar face

Guitarist without a soul, loves guitars similar to how men love cars, there are thousanRAB of fat kiRAB shut away in their rooms right now playing along to power metal recorRAB lining up to follow this wanker into the guiness book of recorRAB and artistic oblivion. It's just practice. Years of constant practice and sh*t music. I just can't relate to this at all, it's like the musical equivalent of a durab blonde skank.

Yeah, one of us actually has a brain capable of recieving, deciphering and transferring them.

EDIT: What in the flying fuck am I doing standing up for Boo Boo? Screw this.

Most of the videos being posted in here are putting me off rock music rather than make me think i'm listening to the best of it.

Not bad at all! Good of you to note Michael Bloomfield. In 66' he was widely regarded as one the best and most influential blues guitarist, but herione and bad career decisions led him into obscurity and an early demise. His work with Butterfiled is just as good as anything Clapton did.

Well, now I know where you stand. I understand what you mean, there are certainly things about the list that I disagree with and would change.

Well, I had actually edited my post to phrase it differently but it's not just a metronome. Listen to it, it's playing a lot more than just a steady beat, it's actually playing notes. Anyway, the point here is that the end result is not music that I find enjoyable and thus my statement that I was happy it got shorter every time he played it.
