20 Years of Ninja Turtles on Television

That's probably it, back when I was a kid the local independent station as well as the local Fox station since Fox didn't have much original programing in the late 80's early 90's would sometimes show multi-part mini-series during 8pm-10pm time slot. I remember them showing both the original Turtles mini-series as well as the Eye of Ragnok(sp) from season 2, in which the Turtles and Shredder have to search for the three pieces to a broken alien jewel that has magical powers, the first piece Shredder used to shrink the Turtles.

Interestingly enough, I remember reading about how fans of the original comics were offended by the campiness of the 80's cartoon.

One thing I like about the Turtles is how I'm basically a mix of all four of them. I can be diligent like Leonardo, sometimes smart like Donatello, rebellious like Raphael, and fun-loving like Michaelangelo.

I only remember Planet of the Turtleoids being aired before the Disney Afternoon in the NY Market. I came home from school, turned on the tube, and caught the tail end of the Transport module retreating after the Mini Technodrome was blown up. Thinking...'WTF? Since when did WPIX get new episodes?'

It was aired at 6 a.m. on a Sunday morning on the pre-UPN affiliate here. Oddly enough, that was the ONLY CBS episode that got syndicated (At least in the market I was in).

TMNT had an odd run here in Indiana when it was syndicated.

TMNT started out on what would one day be the WB for the five part mini-series, Then Fox got the actual full fledged series (On Sunday mornings at 9:30 before it went to weekdays at 4:30), where it ran for a few seasons, then inexplicably got pulled off the air when CBS was in it's second season (Seriously, it was on in the early morning up until December of that year, then it was gone) then about a year later, it ended up on what would be the future UPN's weekday morning schedule for a while, before it left syndication for the USA Network run.

Man 20 years already?! Time sure does fly.

I remember when my mom bought me a turtle action figure and then I started watching the syndicated cartoon. One day I caught the tail end of the 5th episode of the 1987 season and became a Turtles fanatic after that! I had the action figures, comics, movies, illustrated books, cereal, VHS tapes and I even dressed up as a Ninja Turtle for Halloween one year. :D

I watched the cartoon in syndication and on CBS for about six years before I lost interest in the franchise in 1994. I regret missing out on the later seasons but I've managed to watch a few episodes and they were pretty enjoyable. Though I'm not as into the franchise as I used to be, the Turtles will always hold a special place in my heart. They've earned their place in pop culture history and are argubly one of greatest comic/cartoon stars ever.

Happy Anniversary Dudes!!! Cowabunga!!!

If memory serves, TMNT was on at 2:30, 5:00 (BEFORE Local News took over that timeslot) and 6AM and 7AM. It was all over the dial... I'm sure a fellow NY'er will correct me if I'm wrong.

Although, when I was at the NY Anime Festival, I had TMNT on my laptop, and it sure was an experience watching it with the REAL city right outside the Javitz window :).

It's insane when you think about it.

I always thought it was funny, even then, that my elementary school banned any talk of Ninja Turtles for the longest time. :D

20 years of turtle power. Nice. I like some shows form the 80`s but there were only 2 I love. G1 and TMNT. After years has past I don`t love the show as much I love the 2003 verison but It does have it`s moments. 87-91 iwas down whit turtle power. Then when batman and X-men got their own shows, I lost interrest in TMNT. I like the games konami made too. Althougth they were closely base off the toons they would still add charcters from the movies and comics in the games as well. I really wish konami would have made another side scroling game after turtles in time. They could have base it off the red skies era. I hope they make another 3-D game base off the lost season.

TMNT is awesome!:D
