Princess and the Frog doesn't interest me much, but I liked Ponyo, Up and Astro boy. Up will probably win though.

Yes, yes, and yes. Coraline also wasn't that good. It was hardly a masterpiece.
I doubt Up is a no-brainer. Princess And The Frog has resurrected a medium studios said was dead.

Very few people would agree with you on that one.
... Did we see the same movie? Because I don't even recall a single 'current event' pop culture joke in the movie outside of the whole spoofing the disaster movie genre theme near the end of the movie.
Did I say it had to win? No. I said that I would LIKE it to be nominated, but IMHO a movie like Up or Ponyo is more deserving to win. Just a nomination for 'Cloudy' would do it for me.
We'll see when the movie opens. I'm not going to blindly support a movie I haven't seen just because it's 2-D animation.

Does it do that much more for 2D animation than Ponyo did, though? I mean Ponyo was actually on cells! No computer graphics, and it looked freaking amazing!

Granted, Ponyo didn't have a massive marketing campaign and was released in few theaters, but HG still has a point. The only thing 'Frog' is riding on is the fact it's the first 2D Disney movie in nearly 4-5 years. If it does get nominated and wins, I'd rather 'Frog' win on its own merits rather than it being 'a 2D film. From Disney'.

So do I. It beats anything else on the list except perhaps "Up". But I think it's just as good as "Up". Better in some ways; I liked Astro better than any character in "Up". I wish it would at least get nominated, but it probably won't.

Well Princess and the Frog is one movie that I've been waiting for all year and I get a great vibe about it. I'd be absolutely stunned if it flopped. It's true that it may be too early to assume anything, but TheVileOne has actually seen it so he has a point of reference at least.

To me, Cloudy isn't even deserving of a nomination. A movie should not be nominated just to say it got nominated. Some great movies never get nominated and recognized. That doesn't mean they are bad though.
Astroboy definitely won't get nominated. I doubt Summit or IMAGI are going to spend much time campaigning for it.

Since Spirited Away won a few years back, I guess you can say that 2D films have won before.

Considering that nearly 80-95% of 3D movies rely on pop culture jokes, snarky, passive-aggressive humor and use big-name celebrity voices as crutches... I'd say THOSE kinds of movies are far more a dime a dozen than something with heart, like 'Cloudy'.
