I currently have the HTC Hero with Sprint, and I'm pretty happy with it for the most part, but I'm more than ready for my next gen phone at this point but I just don't know whats out and what's coming out in the near future across all of the carriers (I'm not locked into Sprint but if I choose Sprint, I can upgrade a bit sooner). First, I'll start by listing the pros/cons of the HTC Hero, and maybe people could help suggest phones that might fit the bill? I tried using the phone tools stickied at the top of the forums, but there's nothing better than the input of you experts, IMO.
Sprint/Hero Pro's:
Size, weight, sprint navigation app, android OS, image quality, customization options, bluetooth, wifi, storage space, calling plan cost, gmail apps
Sprint/Hero Con's:
no physical keyboard, screen size, lack of coverage more often than I thought there would be, phone software feels more and more laggy as time goes on, battery life is so-so, physical quality of the phone (usb port began to chip after a year or so from normal use), no file transfer/syncing of pictures or files on phone (that I was able to get to work anyway), lack of fun game apps on android, clunky feeling browser.
Don't get me wrong, overall I've enjoyed the phone, but there were some pretty specific cons and typically people notice the negatives far more than the positives.
Type of stuff I'm looking for in specific for my next phone:
-Nice sized touch screen (4"+)
-4G? I'm not sure what type of difference there is to be honest between 3G/4G
-Camera that can record video, 5MP+
-FAST, zippy, quick, tactile response of software***
-Bluetooth for my car ofc
-Good app selection that will handle my gmail/navigation needs
-The thinner profile the better, I like to keep my phone in my pocket
-Good battery life ofc
-Good speaker phone
-Syncs with PC
***important!!!
That's about it. Of course I probably don't know everything phones can do nowadays anyway, but those are what I use mine for now that I'd like to continue using it for.
Thanks in advance!
