hey guys.

i saw it posted a while back that tmobile by law, in their contract or something, has to give you one free copy of your sim card, i was wondering if this was true.

because when i get my new BB, i was wanting to have one in each...

thanks.

Bama, Hopefully a T-mobile rep will answer your question - it doesn't sound likely that you can have a duplicate SIM active in two phones at one time. That involves two IMEI's, PIN's, etc. active on the same SIM.

You can only have one active SIM card per Phone number. Any time you get an Upgrade, you may get a New SIM at no Cost, but the old one will be useless after the New one is active. I get and save the NEW one incase an old one malfuctions in the middle of the year, this way I have one on hand and don't have to pay the 19.99 you would pay any other time.

They don't have to give a duplicate copy of your sim card. That's called sim cloning and they don't do that. However you can clone your own sim card and, at this point, they will not come after you with litigation. As Jblackfish pointed out though with 2 pin's going on at the same time email is going to be a mess. Have to remember to switch pins anytime you switch phones, etc.

Yeah if you read on the handset box it states the sim cards do not come with upgrades only new lines of service. The best thing that I can recommend is using the desktop manager to do your backup. Or back it up with outlook. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

I'm with at&t. When I got my new Sim card with my new BlackBerry, I kept my old phone number. As soon as the new Sim was popped in and the BlackBerry registered, the old Sim card was rendered inactive.

well if your old one malfunctions, what does the new one do for you?

i thought the old ones go dead when you get a new one?

thansk for the responses all... i appreciate it.

Sim cards technically will last a really really long time. As a matter of fact my mom has her original dim card from the days of ariel. Which was many years ago. The sim will go bad if its corroded. Or if its snapped in half. And sometimes if you are having neywork issues then you'll have to change the sim cards sometimes.

Your sim card is transferred from phone to phone so it never gets cancelled on getting a new device. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ I just had to replace my 3 year old SIM card back in January because it just up and quit. I could have used one out of the collection I have but I took it to TMobile just so I could see what they said. I got a new one free.

It's actually not to prevent theft or unauthorised use. The will cancel a sim card in cases of non-payment on monthly and contract plans or expiration of the minutes on prepaid plans. They understand that some people will use thier phones only for emergency. I have some customers on prepaid that use less than $25 a year on their phones. They are in Gold Rewards so they add $25 a year to keep it active and replenish the little bit of airtime they did use the year before.
