2 riddles (10 pts to whoever gets both right first and explain them)?

1) Fifteen people are trapped in a ship that will sink in 20 minutes. Their only chance of survival is a five person raft stowed on the vessel. The water is teeming with man-eating sharks, so swimming is out of the question. A round trip to the nearest island and back to the boat takes 9 minutes on the raft. How many people will survive?

Hint: Not everyone will survive D:

2) Ten candles are burning in a dining room. A strong breeze extinguishes two of them. You check back later and you see that another one has been extinguished. To make sure no more flames go out, you shut the window. Assuming the wind didn't extinguish any more candles, how many candles do you have left in the end?
=) got them both. It's three because of what you said.
Oh woops I just saw that Julie answered both. My bad.

1) 9 people. 5 leave to go to the island, then one must stay to come back. then 4 more people get on the boat. (maybe?? lol)

2) 7? thats the logical answer, but another one that i didnt think of is probably there somewhere

edit: thanks for making me feel stupid everyone above me ;)

You can make 3 round trips in 20 minutes. But you can only save 4
people at a time as one person has to be the driver, therefore 12
people plus the driver survive, so the answer is 13.

2nd riddle--3 candles
