mean like the less rpms means less gas right? now if the speed limit is 45 mph and i can easily do that in 4th gear at about 2800 to 2900 rpms or should i just shift to 5th (which i think is pretty much overdrive) and stay at about 1900 to 2000 rpms? would i save on gas in 5th gear and when is the best time to shift?

another question? now instead of using my breaks i can downshift but does that waste gas because everytime i down shift the engine revs up?

please peopel that actually know what they are talking about answer

thanks

if you want to save gas, stay in as high a gear as possible. if you are going up a hill and you feel the car start to really slow down, you need to downshift. yes, lower rpm's means less gas is being used.

downshifting will save the brakes, but: it is important to give it gas as you let the clutch out after downshifting so the clutch does not have to bring the rpm's up by itself. this is called rev matching and it will be much less damaging to the clutch.
