2 problems with my 2001 Ford Focus.?

1. When I start the car it vibrates all throughout the car. It doesn't matter whether it's parked or driving it vibrates really badly. And I'm pretty sure it's coming from the engine. What could this be?

2. I was driving last night up a hill and it seemed like my car just lost power. I kept pressing the gas and nothing happened. (No vibrating from problem 1 either) And then all of a sudden without my foot on the gas, it just went "Vroom Vroom Vroom" Three quick times jerking me back into the seat. Oh and the day before this happened, my car wouldn't start either, It clicked like the battery was dead but everything ie. lights, cd player came on. Just like the engine wouldn't start.

Anyone have any ideas about this?
When I bought the damn thing a few months ago I put $500 into it. So vehicle maintenance is not the issue here.
 
1 battery,,,clean..tighten cables
2 drive to auto parts store for FREE test of battery,,,alternator....starter
3 its a 2001 ever been tuned up...ck engine lite on? it does mean something....FREE scan most auto prts stores
 
Vibration could be a loose motor mount.
Lose of power could be a plugged fuel filter or possibly your fuel pump going bad. Sounds like your fuel pump, if it does not start again, have someone try to start it while you get under the gas tank and hit the tank a few times, if it starts, its your fuel pump, this will only work a few times before it goes out completely.
To prevent this: do not let your gas get under 1/4 tank, use fuel additives 1/month to clean out the system.

sounds like you've blown the gascit. (dont know how to spell it but it's pronounced gas-git). it's a rubber seal that's in the top part of then engine. you might also have engine oil in with your spark plugs. (can be caused by faulty gascit.)

engine oil in with your spark plugs can and will make the car lag. you will feel it laging when it changes gears (or when you change gears in a manual). if will take a few seconds if not minutes to re-gain power and your car will lag without warning going up or down hills or inclines.

i blew mine a few weeks ago. it's not your fault. nothing on a car is built to last forever.

if you are fixing it yourslef then a gascit will cost between $150 and $300 (aud). check your radiator as well. your gascit could be broken due to overheating in the engine caused by a broken radiator. you will know if your radiator is broken because your car will pour out a fluro green looking liquid called coolant.

NEVER drive your car if it's hot (the little gauge on the dashboard indicates that the car is overheating). you can and will blow the engine.

if your car wouldn't start then there might be alot more damage to your engine than you think. take it to a mechanic.
 
Is it a petrol model? Sounds like there could be a problem with the carburettor/air mixture or blockages - i.e. wrong mixture when cold will cause low revs, the engine will struggle and make the car vibrate. If you had no power but it suddenly came back there could have been a brief blockage in the fuel line/carburettor.

Get it tuned and cleaned out, new fuel filters, drain and clean the petrol tank etc. If a good garage has been looking after it, you shouldn't really get these sort of problems.
