1. Some argue that Canadian companies are being taken over by foreign firms because the CEOs of these companies have huge incentive that this will happen. For example, it is common that the CEO receives a big bonus if the firm he/she manages is taken over by another firm. What do you think; are these types of incentives bad for Canadian
investors?
2. In a 1970 New York Times article, the Nobel laureate Milton Freidman argued that the social responsibility of a business is to increase its profits. Milton Freidman claimed there is one and only one social responsibility of business–to use it resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game,
which is to say, engages in open and free competition without deception or fraud (stated otherwise, businesses should maximize profits (or value) as long as they do so legally).
