2.2 on Droid X... Where is it already?

I am sure i am not the only one getting tired of the Verizon Wireless game...

We were told mid 2010, then the end of August, now early September, and now there is a page on VZW that says the" released" it already... but you and i know that is a crock...

I have called VZW to ask when now... soon is the best they have.

This is getting ridiculous. Catch up or get out VZW!

I don't want the update unless its right. Don't know if i'll even accept it when it does finally come out. My Droid X is rooted, on 2.2, and bada$$! I'm using the black glass theme and can't see going back to stock. I've been with Android since the G1 was released, and I can tell you, the development community has always been 5 steps ahead of the carriers on releasing quality updates.

You should root your DX and play with the leaked 2.2 until the official version comes out. Its some nice themes out right now as well.

At this point, it seems like Moto will never release 2.2

But, as RDILLZ said... that is where the developers step in and bridge the gap!

RDILLZ, what ROM are you using? my buddy is thinking about rooting and wants to find a good one (and any pointers / links to root guides? I know it is fairly involved for the X)

Sure man! I used "Easy Root" and its the easiest rooting method I've ever seen! You do need a pc for like 10 seconds though.

That gets you rooted, then you need to flash the "bootstrap" recovery. You can find that here,

You can also get the sbf file from that link to revert your DX back to stock just in case you want to receive the official update whenever it comes out.

Then you can use ROM Manager to flash a ROM and themes. I'm using the FlyX ROM by Birdman. Its nice! As always, make backups before flashing!

I have heard that rooting can destroy the phone and void the warranty.

I have looked at it a little but with the "eminent" release of 2.2 i thought i would wait it out... i am getting tired of the game though... a root may be in my future.

Well the root you listed is worthless. It always fails and has something to do with toggling the bluetooth setting?

Anyway... i guess i will have to wait on vzw.

True but I've never see it happen. The sbf file will always un-brick your phone if you mess up on one of the steps. Also I've never heard of the carrier checking to even see if you're rooted and void the warranty. Those are disclaimers that have to be mentioned whenever you're modding your phone. I've owned 5 different Android devices in a year, rooted all except 1, and never had a problem with bricking. Even sent a few back and got replacements for loose battery doors and dust under the screen. They never checked for root.

Of course you can. Simple as one click. But to receive the official update, you'll have to use the SBF file to revert back to stock. There are some video walk-throughs on youtube to help you with that. When researching rooting, it can get confusing learning all the lingo, but its pretty much just following directions carefully. And not panicking if something goes wrong. Know that the SBF will save you and revert you back to stock. I say only root when you feel comfortable with it, but it will unleash your DX. I'm always around to help you out if you need it. just PM me.

One more thing, having a basic windows xp handy is ideal. Everything just seems to go smoother with it. The people that tend to have problems are usually using windows 7 or a Mac.

Finally got the root to work. Not sure what was wrong.
Finally decide to root and upgrade after hearing the vwz could take upto another 3 weeks for theirs to come out... total bull!

Thanks for the info and help. Now I just need to play around with all the changes to see what is in store.
