My uncle had the exact same problem!!
His was the actual guage in the end malfunctioning. But it all depends what the error message it displays is, if it displays one at all.
There are 4 things it could be:
1. The clocks are broken
2. The EXUP valve is faulty
3. The wiring is damaged somewhere
4. There is something on the carbs that may be broken (unsure on what this is, as i can't really remember)
Go to a spares/parts shop and ask them.
My uncle bought 3 sets of clocks in the process of trying to find the problem. It turned out it was just the clocks he bought were broken! In the end he had a set that worked. He came off his bike on Tuesday and now they're broken again...it seems someone doesn't want him to have working clocks!! haha
