got a 99 Mercury EFI 225. On the tag with the timing info on it and other info under the cowling, it has engine family 225/250. can this engine be changed over from 225hp to 250hp without major engine work? just wondering. thanks

The 225 and 250 share a block (3.0L), but thats about it. You would have to change the fuel management system (throttle body and components), the reed block, the vapor seperator, the ECU, and maybe some oil injection components. After you make these changes, you will probably have to reprop the motor to compensate for the extra HP. Not a real practical way to add 25 HP.
