It's a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder, four door. Only 86,500 miles on it. I got it with 72,xxx miles, bought from a Mazda Dealer. Runs and drives great, very reliable, only problem I've had with it is the tranny liked to slip (very minor) shifting into third gear under a light load, put Lucas tranny fluid in, it's all good now. Just had another oil change, plugs are good and newer, new air filter, general matinence stuff. The '99 Protege's have issues with the EGR valve, they like to throw codes because carbon builds up on them and the sensor is too sensitive. Had it clean three times in two months when I bought it, check engine light came on a fourth time and I have been ignoring it the last few months. It seems to have no effect on how the car drives, nor gas mileage. The check engine light goes on and off, mostly when I fill it up all the way with gas. I drive this car 60-70 miles a day for work, and it eats up gas FAST. Takes almost a quarter tank to get to work, 35 miles away. I am very generous, and do not hammer on it, and seldomly use my A/C. It seems to be running great, not hesitant, performs the same, just really crappy mileage!!! It's supposed to get 30+ mpg.
