My van will start just fine, and it'll run - as long as you're revving it or applying gas. This happens whether in park, neutral, or drive. Also, when testing the throttle, I can hear a sucking/wheezing sound - something air related.

Right as it dies, the battery light comes on and then it's dead. Any ideas on what to check and how to tell if a certain piece is bad?

The E.G.R may be Open, there should be no vacum to it until 1500 R.P.M. ,if there is no vacum at 750 R.P.M. (Idle ) it may be stuck in the Open Position. The First place to look is at all Vacum hoses for leak or Disconnected; The I.A.C. valve can cause same problem as well as intake manif.
