Ok, I just got a 1999 ford escort with around 160,000 miles on it and it was driving fine when when the car suddenly wouldn't go over 45mph. I then pulled over and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. I got someone to bring it back to the house. It would turn over but not start and the service engine light was coming on. I changed the oil, put in new wires that go to the spark plugs, and a new battery. The car then started fine, but it would cut off while idling. I was told to just take it for a short test drive and it would be fine because some cars did that when a new battery has been put in. While on the test drive, the car just completely cut off without warning. Again when I tried to crank it, it would turn over but not start. No white smoke this time. It is currently on the side of the road, and if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
