I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid.
Shift lever, and cable have been intermittantly stuck. Recently, it is stuck in Drive, and I cannot start it. I cannot afford to spend a ton of money on this car.
Is there a way to start it whilst in Drive? The cable is destroyed by my efforts to get it moving. I also destroyed the shift lever (floor)

HOw hard is it to replace the cable?
I have most shop tools available to me.
I noticed the cable attaches to (enters in to) the transmission housing.
If you "advise" me to take it to a shop, there is a reason I'm asking here.
