Ok my friend is selling me his kx 125 for $500 (i was suppose to get a blaster but the guy does not want to sell it.) it runs really nice and looks good. Do you think it would be a good first bike or will i just blow it up.
Should i just trade it for another quad or dirt bike or sell it. If so what quad or dirtbike?i was thinking maybe a 400ex, z400, kfx, raptor. what about a dirtbike maybe a 230 - 250cc or even maybe a crf 150. Do you think that is good because when i go riding with my friend i dont want to be the guy that is always in the back.
so what do you think i should do just keep it and or trade/sell it.
---also my friend got a banshee 350 and it was his first and he rides just fine.

The kx 125 will easily smoke a blaster, 400ex, z400, but not the kfx (if it is the 450 you are talking about), and not the raptor. If you get a 250 (motocross) dirt bike, it will beat anything but a modded banshee.

If you want a dirtbike I'd go with a 250. Trust me, they are a LOT more fun to ride than a 125. The 125 has CRAP for low end and mid range; it isn't even comparable to a 250 motocross bike (by motocross I mean kx/yz/cr/rm).

If you get a 4 wheeler definitely go with a banshee, TRUST Me. With about $400 in mods, it will be able to smoke ANY other 4 wheeler out there, and will be likely to beat a 250 motocross bike (definitely wins on the top speed though). Also, the banshee handles extremely well, especially for an old school quad.

FYI a HEAVILY modded banshee can beat a KX 500. That is pretty insane, because I have owned a kx 500 and them things are unreal (in a good way).

Lastly, if you want to be the last one in the pack, then buy an ex400 or the z400 :)

If you get this bike becareful A 125 is a fast bike if drivin right. I have being ridin dirt bikes for 34yrs. I have had 29 bikes all to gather, an a pal of wrecks. the last one they had take my fema bone out an put in a rod along with 4 broke ribs/2 toes a broke knee.I know have a rod in my right leg with more screws in it then a herdware store has in stock, the left leg/knee has benin reconstruted too.by the way I too ride a 125,(2008 yz125) total'y work'd out, very fast an will get away from with you as soon as you thank you can handle it, SO RESPECT IT FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!happy/safe ridin, enjoy

You need to add a little more information as to what experience you haev on mx bikes and what weight and height you are. A kx125 ridden correctly should be faster than a crf150f or even the race version the crf150r. Unless you have had experience on bikes before you may find a 2 stroke mx bike not all that suited if you are only intending to ride trails.

for a first dirt bike i would get an off-road bike but u would problem be better off with a honda 400ex their real nce quads and u can do anything with them but if u feel comfortable on a dirt bike get a CRF150r their the best mini bike on the market

The kx is a good bike. I had a 99 Kx 125 and it was very reliable.
Quads generally cost more for upkeep than bikes. They tend to break more parts because they are heavy.
