u need to have codes read...any parts store does it for free.......also have them clear them if there are several and then drive it until light comes back on then take it back to parts store as quick as possible...
as for idle control...there is an idle control valve....and idle air sensor and also several hoses and such in the system that can trigger the code.....
and yes it can eventually hurt ur car...causes bad fuel mileage and can eventually mess stuff up by not enough fuel or too much fuel....
