1997 pontiac grand prix supercharged?

engine overheated seems to display all indications of inlet manifold problems. any suggestions before tearing it apart to be able to check that?

Pontiac is known for blowing intake gaskets. Everyone will tell you it is the head gasket, but all the parts stores will tell you to check the intake manifold gasket instead. That is how often the Intake gaskets go. You can check around the outside of the manifold with a can for carb cleaner. You will hear it bog a bit when you hit the spot where it is leaking.

first thing is check the thermostat. then you can flush out the cooling system and make sure the fan works.
