1997 kawasaki volkan 750 problem running?

The fuel valve is open when I run it. The bike has been sitting a few years. Curious how to take apart the carb and clean it. Should I start n just buy the book?

This bike had been sitting for awhile. When I first looked at it there was no problem to start up at all. Now, I put in some carb cleaner(maybe too much) along with a new tank of gas and ran it for awhile. When I finally took it home I noticed I cant start the bike without starter fluid. It starts up and dies only when I spray some in the carb. Do I need to drain all the fuel out? I also heard draining the carb and reserve might help get rid of possible old fuel that might have water in there.

Any ideas?

I heard I need to clean the bowls and the inlet jets. SHould I just buy carb cleaner and scrub it with a tooth brush? I also heard clean the tank with vinegar and ball bearings. Fill the tank completely full? Rinse it out before putting fuel in?

Please offer me a easy solution I can do myself

spray some gas straight into the carb,if it starts and runs a few seconds and then dies it is time to clean the carbs because the pilot jets are gummed up.you will need to get a shop manual! But basically what you need to do is get a gallon of cleaning solution from an auto parts store.It comes with an internal basket so you can soak the parts. Do not soak any non metal parts! They will swell from the solution! after soaking overnight you need to blow out every part of the carb with compressed air.You will need to replace the float bowl gaskets do not attempt to re use them.I strongly suggest getting a shop manual before doing any work!
