1997 jeep grand cherokee limited?

i just bought jeep grand cherokee limited 97...............just had one question................it says v8 so i figured it has 5.2 liters.....but some websites on the interent say it only has 4.0 liters with a V8......i thought that was a v6..................... so im confused if anyone could help me that would be great..........also ive been telling my older brother it could beat his 2004 ford explorer with 4.0 v6 do u think my jeep could weather it has 4.0 or 5.2
