1997 honda civic with a bad transmission. Should I sell?

Times are rough. I really can't afford to pay for the repairs on this car, and I need to get some money. The blue book value on one of these in good condition is around 3500, I'm looking to sell it for around 2000. The body, tires, and everything are good, and it runs, just a bad transmission. Do you think people would still buy?

Try to locate one at a salvage yard. (I know a good Honda salvage yard in NE PA. If you are in that part of the country ask me for the phone number.)

A used transmission isn't a lot of money and if the car is in otherwise good condition then it is worth fixing. Sometimes the salvage yard will do the labor too and they will often give a 30 day warranty. I know that's not much but it does prevent you from getting a tranny that is also already bad. Remember most of the vehicles in a salvage yard are there due to accidents and not mechanical problems. I have purchased used transmissions and engines before and never had any problems with them. (Of course that doesn't mean it is impossible to happen.)

Not with a bad transmission, scrap it or look in newspaper for people that buy junk cars. We had a van with a transmission gone and called a guy out of the paper,he bought it for $200.00. Good luck..

Seriously you can get a auto or manual transmission at the junkyard or Craigslist for about $100-$200. If you sold it you would lose out on a good car.

don't listen to those faget, just try to find a used transmission in scrap yards or an burned engine car, it should be around 200 or 300$ + replacement Total around 500$ . honda is a very good brand and are solid cars but if you need mony you can sell it around 1500 or 1000$ but if you fixe it you can sell it more than 3500$ all depending on howmany Km your car has

See if you can find a used tran for it. If not you will take a huge loss if you sale. But thats up to you & your given situation.

yes no dout about the selling and keep this in your mind old is gold, try to face the problems and keep the car with you how ever it may the problem face it with a smile and receive the worries inside your heart and you will see the total world will ask you to sell the car for a better price

Your car sounds like its in good shape other than the trans. The Transmission is only around $250 and around $600 with labor, you should just fix it. If you sell it for cheap and try to get a new car, its going to cost more than just fixing the car you have.
