I just bought this car (used) and I am paranoid about the manual transmission failing. It's hard to judge by sound because I just bought the car so I can't judge 'unusual' sounds from what it 'usually' sounds like. And as I mentioned, I'm paranoid about it, and flipping out at every sound it makes. Symptoms:
-Car lurches forward a little bit when shifting gears and accelerating
-Reverse is finicky and a bit difficult to get it in that gear
-Strangest of all: The first time I use it every day, it switches into first fine, but lurches back and forth once the clutch is released and its in second. When I quickly shift to neutral and back to second, its fine, as are all gears afterwards. Any time I start the car beyond the first time in a day this problem rarely occurs.
Anyone have any thoughts? Other articles I've read say to listen for the grinding sound--is this sound apparent or subtle? Thanks!
