1997 chevy lumina transmission trouble?

can you unplug the overdrive on a 1997 chevy lumina if so were is it the transmission goes in and out of overdrive so i'm wondering will it still shift into all there gears but just pull in third gear this car has a history of transmission issues but it always manage to fix itself like it use to did'nt want to shift gears or it was a hard shift so is it possible to unplug the overdrive
 
if it is a 4 speed just drive it in drive the only reason you should use overdrive is for long flat country road trips. i don't think you can unplug overdrive
