Okay, this is what is going on. My boyfriend has a 1997 Cavalier with a little over 112,000 miles on it. We have noticed that his coolant is brown. I told him he needs a flush which is obvious. However, from time to time he is losing coolant. We add more and then a few months down the road he needs to add about half a jug. I checked thoroughly for a coolant leak (checked hoses, bottom of intake and even smelled the exhaust pipe after the car was off. An internal leak can make the exhaust pipe smell). He said he had his thermostat replaced two years ago. Could the coolant be just dirty?
