My friend just bought a new car and I want to buy his old one from him. Its a '96 Corolla, here are some things that I know about it:
- Bone-dry as far as options (power nothing)
- 174k miles
- White, has a little rust
- Upholstry/dash/interior is in very good condition. Always a non-smoking car
- In October of 2009, he started using the car for a sales route, put approx 70miles on it per day (mon-fri). Had been used like this until about 2 weeks ago. Before that, he commuted to work about 6 miles (round trip), 5 days a week.
- He is not a big driving kinda guy. If he wasnt driving it to work, with a few exceptions, hes not driving it at all. Also, a very slow/deliberate driver; definitely dont need to worry about him whipping around corners or slamming on the brakes in it.
- He told me that it MIGHT be burning oil. Hes a very honest person. If it was burning oil, he would tell me. He just thinks it might be because he took a trip of about 200 miles one day and noticed when he got home he was low on oil.
- He didnt get the new car because this one broke down/wasnt doing well. He got it because he knows that eventually with his new job he would need a newer car, and got a good deal on the one he purchased ($4500 for a 2007 Mazda3 with 50k miles!). Before buying it, he was planning on keeping the Corolla until at least next year.
He is going to sell it to me for $400. Good deal? Thanks very much for your time and knowledge!
Oh ya, its an automatic and has an aftermarket CD player
I know not to put much stock in KBB, but it's private-party value on Kelley Blue Books is $1655
$1655 in Fair condition
