you got enough fluid in the transmission?you have to check it in park when the car is running ,PS change your fluid at least once a year.
 
Toyota used a proprietary fluid for years. If you had it done at a Toyota dealer take it back right away. If it was done by you or an independent garage without the correct fluid it may have led to the problem. Hopefully it is a simple adjustment that just coincidentally occurred when the fluid was changed.

it has 180,000 miles on it. Had the transmission fluid changed about a year 1/2 ago. No problems then. Decided to change it due to check engine light on and reading E solenoid problem. Had that check and the mechanic said it was fine and could be a connection problem or transmission problem. This all stemed from the vehicle not passing inspection due to check engine light. Now more problems then previously had!
Have to agree on Deadeye's answer. I have asked a few other s and they are saying the same thing. I think I'll just get a new car! Thanks everyone.
 
When an automatic transmission doesn't want to go into a gear, it usually means that there is a lack of pressure in the tranny. You should check it and add some or drain it a little to get the proper level for it. By the way, change it about every 50,000 to 75,000 miles.

There was just not enough info. What is the miles? Has the transmission been serviced regularly? Did you just happen to decide to service the transmission or was there a prior problem?
