1996 pontiac sunfire muffler problems can i eliminate the muffler ?

hi i have a 1996 pontiac sunfire se and my problem is that when ever i get off the gas mu muffler makes a sound like it is an nonstop rumble fart but once i get on the gas it stops i think it has something broken in it can i just cut off the muffler and weld a straight pipe on it. will it make it sound bad and will i get worse MPG. please answer all three question's or if you have any other suggestions and just to let you no i am strapped for cash and the car was in a front end accident and i don't really want to put more than 20 bucks into it to fix it thansk john
 
Yes, you can eliminate the muffler.
It will sound loud; how bad, I don't know.
You won't get worse MPGs. It might get a bit better due to lower backpressure, but probably nothing noticeable.
 
You will get pulled over faster then you can say Go. It will sound like a piece of shit, like it does now but worse. DO NOT DO THIS!!
