why is it that when i am driving down the road and i hit a little bit of a bump my front wheels start to shake violently and it doesnt stop until i slow down quickly and the wheel shimmies alot and i cud feel every little bump in the road because the steering wheel moves with every bump i hit...i have 96 grand cherokee 5.2 V8 ...are these problems because of a bad steering stabilizer, bad ball joints, or a combination of the two???...could somebody please send me a link of what ball joints are supposed to look like and what they look like when there bad??..this problem has been going on for about 3 months now and i need to know whats wrong!!

It's called a death wobble.
Several things can cause it
To check ball joints/wheel bearing raise the front tire up off the ground grab the tire from top to bottom and see if you can rock it there should be no play.Make sure you do not grab the tire from side to side and rock it if you do the play will be coming from the steering which would be normal.
Can be;
1.ball joints
2.stabilizer bar/shock
3.tire out of balance
4.need a wheel alignment.
5.If vehicle has been lifted may need a longer drop pitman arm
