1996 Ford Taurus with an overheating issue (radiator, water pump, thermostat?)?

Hi there,

I'm the owner of a 1996 Ford Taurus Ghia that has an issue with overheating. The car can be driven but overheats quickly when idling and within a trip around a residential block. Bringing it up to cruising speed cools it a little but not much. I've had it to the mechanics and they have told me that it could be one of a multitude of things, a possibly blocked radiator, a faulty water pump or a faulty thermostat. Any assistance in diagnosing the problem would be much appreciated.

I've also been told that it may have a blown head gasket and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to find out without taking the head off. I have not seen any water in the oil on the dipstick and am hoping I'm in the clear.

I do have a spare Taurus that I can scavenge for replacement parts but the probable outcome is buying new parts to replace any broken down ones.

Thank you again for your help.
