1996 ford ranger transmission problem?

i have a 1996 ford ranger with a v6 4.0l and its an autoatic with 2 wheel drive i blew out the trans mission and i need to know what kind of trany goes back in it cause i was told ford made 4 or 5 different kinds for that year if any one has any information it would be a big help
 
I suggest you put a working one back in! But seriously Phop is right if you contact NAPA they can help you out by giving you info as to how to identify which one you have in it.
 
at your local NAPA store they have a book that list all the transmission gaskets and gives pictures if you get one of those books you can match the gasket to yours and then you will know which transmission you have ( in most cases )
I was at my local NAPA store this week and they were on the counter ,free for the taking
 
there should be a number stamped on the transmission case indicating the kind of transmission it is. write it down and take it to NAPA so they can check the number in their books.
