1996 Ford Escort LX automatic won't shift until warmed up for about 10 minutes.?

1996 Ford Escort LX, has 74,000 miles on it. It's an automatic, and won't shift until car has been running and warmed up. Then it changes gears and runs nice. I just replaced transmission filter and fluid and it didn't help. Any Ideas what is wrong, or what to try next? Thank you
