I own a 95 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6. Today my boyfriend was driving it and the cruise control would not turn off while he was trying to slow down. He had to slam on the brakes, pull off to the shoulder, put it in park and shut it off to make it stop. It was still revving very high while in park. He tried to turn it back on, and at first it did start up but was revving as bad as before. Once again he turned it off and now it wont start at all, it just clicks. We tried jumping it thinking it may have killed the battery. Now we think it ate up the starter, though it was not grinding like it was ruining the starter. Battery terminals are not corroded. The car did not red-line while it was revving either time. Please if you have any ideas or suggestions please voice them. I want to be sure its the starter before I go out and buy one. Thank you for taking your time to do this!

Sounds Like the button may be stuck. You didn't mention how cold the weather was during that day your boy friend driven your car. Basically if it was a cold day -- spray a deicer -alcohol into the button area before you disconnect the positive (+ ) terminal from your battery cable.

Simply put, disconnect the cable first and then spray inside the push button. It may have been stuck.

I own this car and I never use the cruise control. This type of car is a racecar if it is setup and taken car of. Before I own this car I owned a BMW. My 1995 Grandam can outrun my BMW.\
